The Masters in Information Technology (MIT) programme was developed
in conjunction with Irish and multi-national industry. The
programme
aims to equip graduates with a range of technical, business
and behavioural skills needed for the successful implementation
and management of Information Technology in today's business environment.
The programme is multi-disciplinary with an emphasis on producing
a 'hybrid' graduate who has knowledge of both business and technology.
MIT participants develop an understanding of business, marketing
and accounting procedures and can apply effective IT solutions
at all levels within an organisation.
Graduate placement programme
Graduate placement is an integral part of
the Masters in Information
Technology (MIT) degree programme. Participants are available
for six months(September through February) to complete, or support,
company projects related to the MIT programme of study. During
the first year of the MIT programme participants acquire a range
of professional skills and knowledge, which complement their high
grade primary degree qualifications. The placement which takes
place in the second year, is intended to give host companies access
to these skills and provides students with practical experience
if the work environment.
Course Participants
To maintain a high standard of education and group interaction,
the annual intake of MIT participants is limited to twelve. All
participants have honours undergraduate degrees, and sre draws
from a variety of primary of primary diciplines, including: science,
engineering, business and the humanities.
MIT schedule
During the first year of the course students attend full-time
at UCG, where they take lectures, seminars and course assignments.
Examinations are held in January ans May, and the Summer is spent
working on a relevant team-based project. In the second year the
student works on a major project in industry or business. This
placement forms the basis for a written dissertation
submitted at the end of the second year and provides students
with practical work experience.
Career Paths
A broad range of career paths are open to MIT graduates.
These include business or IT analysis, consultancy, training and
development, management and IT applications development. Graduates
may also apply their IT skills in a career based on their primary degree.
